SAN MATEO BAY CENTER

The Public Forum is a civic gesture that extends from the South Van Ness Street sidewalk to the front entry of the San Francisco’s new civic office building, where the collaborative seam extends up into the tower.  The 240 feet long linear plaza with stone carpet areas integrates a sculpture garden at the South Van Ness as part of the POPOS (Privately Own Public Open Spaces) and is activated by the retail at the corners of the podium of the residential tower.  The flexible seating throughout shaded by the deciduous trees provide a place to meet and exchange ideas for the visitors and workers during the day and transform into a tranquil linear garden highlighted by the inground LED lights at night.  This flexible and versatile linear public space is designed to enhance the quality of the urban public space and to contribute to the overall alley / paseo character of the SOMA neighborhood
