CONGREGATION BETH JACOB
Through a community-driven design process, TS Studio, along with Herman Colive Locus Architecture is developing a master vision plan to create an outdoor chapel with the memorial wall, reimagine classroom & play spaces, and renovate the south patio for socializing and gathering.
A ceremonial path extends out from the existing chapel through a native garden and gently descends down to the outdoor chapel nestled into the site topography with existing redwoods in the background and a memorial wall at the entrance. A delicate ripple metal canopy floats above the congregation providing weather protection while letting the views open towards the surrounding canopy above and sky beyond. A comfortable seating Amphitheatre provides ADA access throughout with comfortable wood seating for all ages, nestled and surrounded by nature.
At the classroom buildings an extended undulating eave provides a covered weather protected corridor that opens up into the outdoor classrooms, an immersive environment with community gardens and areas for outdoor learning and playground.
Just outside of the social hall, the south patio with renovated cobblestone paving creates an area for event hosting, social gatherings and expanded outdoor dining. Surrounded by chairs and a bench with a planting backdrop, a circular water feature with fire in the middle provides cool during the heat and warmth into the cold nights.
